God’s merciful love is made present to us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Through this sacrament, we, though sinful people, can be reconciled with God and His church. After a careful examination of conscience and with a serious commitment to correct the wrongdoing going forward, we approach Jesus (in the person of the priest), admit our failings and shortcomings, pray for forgiveness and receive absolution. It is important to receive this grace before receiving the Eucharist and to commit to working actively to live our faith in our daily lives.
There are several guides that can used to help us recall our sins and prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Visit Examinations of Conscience | USCCB for different guides that can help you prepare for the sacrament.
